Hey guys! For my first post, I thought of sharing with you a personal letter I wrote to my husband in celebration of our anniversary. I figured it’s a fitting introduction since we both see love and marriage as a partnership we should always give time for.
So without out further ado, let me welcome you to Living with the Donuts with a letter that celebrates the Happy Ever After me and my husband worked so hard (and will keep working hard) for. Enjoy!
Dear Ben,
Do you want to know a secret?
I knew I was going to marry you even before you asked me to.
When I was young, I asked my mom how she knew it was my dad she will spend the rest of her life with and her answer was simple: she prayed. She asked God to give her a sign and being the religious woman that she is, she prayed for it every single night. Soon after, God answered her prayers.
It was, quite literally, a sign from the heavens.
I was never really the most religious person, but being the hopeless romantic that I am, I copied my mom’s style. I didn’t really pray for it every single night, but I did ask God for a sign. To be really precise, I asked God to have the man I’ll marry put a flower behind my ear.
So there we were, 3 years ago, at a wedding of your closest friend. Quite drunk and fooling around, the elevator door opened—and there it was, a white flower right on the floor. To my complete and utter amazement, you managed to pick up the flower and put it right behind my ear in one quick motion. Congratulations!
You see, when I tell you that you are a gift from God, I am not kidding. I actually mean it, literally. It’s not like I didn’t have a choice though. God gave you to me, but it was I who decided to commit to you—to love you.
It was just like yesterday when we were on our first date talking about decisions and commitments. And here we are, decidedly committed for the rest of our lives. With our two children (my gosh—TWO!!), I promise to be every bit of heaven-sent to you.
Thank you for letting me realize how much love I can give—for bringing out the best in me. Now, let me show you how great our forever will be.
Happy Anniversary, my sweetheart!
Hugs & Kisses,
Grace
